Value Added Health Service

Why do dentist preach good dental health, but make their services so expensive ?

The average persons working regular jobs has a hard enough time staying afloat so things like dental care and proper health care escapes them. It has nothing to do with race, creed, or color.

  1. Well, it mostly has to deal with the fact that they need to keep their practice running. Also, they and their staff would like to at least live above the poverty line. Which is getting harder and harder, even for doctors, to do.
  2. I would think that the tools used in the dentist office you can't buy at dollar tree or dollar general and that they cost more than a pretty penny. Most own their own practice and have to be paid, plus their hygienists have to paid and I am certain they must pay utilities, rent and taxes. Also, why would one expect to have "cheap" services from someone who spent A LOT of time in college to become a doctor or dentist? My Pastor's son and his son in law are both attending Loma Linda in California. This is not a cheap school. One is becoming a doctor and the other is in dental school. Neither can have regular jobs due to the rigorous schedules and have to take out huge loans for each year of school. I would assume that once they complete their schooling, they will be able to get a nice job in their field and be paid nicely. After all, they are doing something that takes brain power, not just skills needed to flip a hamburger. I am not trying to be rude, but one must think about how difficult the schooling is, how tedious, and how expensive. If a person needs cheaper services, I have heard they can have their teeth worked on by students in dental school. I am sure the work would be done well because they are more than likely being supervised. The average person has a difficult time getting services for themself because we are being sucked dry by people on welfare and by the government.
  3. You would be surprised at the cost of the equipment and materials in a dental office!! I have been working in offices for over 5 years now and I am still taken aback by the amount of money it takes just to keep the materials around to do "expensive dental work." And offices need to pay for their bills just as any person does!
  4. Check the report below....the average dental yearly costs were under $500, so: 50 percent of people paid UNDER $500 a YEAR to take care of their teeth.... Avg. exam $30 Avg. cleaning $75 Avg. filling $100 These are all less than that last tattoo!
  5. The same reason Mercedes Benz commercials don't tell you about how much more economical it is to buy a Hyundai. Good question! The reason the dental association promotes dental hygiene is to market their services. I also wonder if our President Elect is going to be successful in his effort to bring affordable health care to everyone. With everything he has on his plate, I hope this issue gets attention to.
